Segment 3 Dec 7th 2009

Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her local connections are well known but her mixed ethnicity is less well-known. We had a good session discussing race, culture-shock, and the effects of migration. (See "Aurora Leigh" by EBB)
The MRLC kindly lent us one of their display boards about EBB for the morning. This included a wonderful picture of Hope End house (since demolished) - a ditsy mixture of architectural styles. (see below)

We also read a wonderful poem by Grace Nichols called "The Fat Black Woman Goes Shopping" - which inspired some great shopping stories and anecdotes.
